Even though Samsung’s sixth-generation Galaxy Note is still months away from being launched, online speculations are already pointing towards a lower-spec version of the premium phablet that may be in the works for a release later this year. While rumors regarding the Galaxy Note 6 have suggested that it will come with the absolute latest hardware the industry has to offer, the lower-spec Galaxy Note 6 ‘Lite’ model is also thought to be a pretty powerful device in its own right, if the latest rumors are anything to go by. The device will supposedly have a Snapdragon 820 SoC under its hood, which is the most powerful chip currently available in the market and powers just about all the latest premium flagships, including the Samsung Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 Edge, LG G5, HTC 10 and the Xiaomi Mi5.
Taking a more detailed look at what the report is claiming, the upcoming Galaxy Note 6 Lite will apparently have 4 GB of RAM instead of the 6 or even 8 GB that will apparently be present in the no-compromise Galaxy Note 6. The reports also suggest that the ‘Lite’ version will feature a 1080p display panel, which will also be a step down from the QHD (2560 x 1440) screen expected to feature in the original top-spec Galaxy Note 6, although, all of that is still in the realms of speculation themselves in the absence of any official announcement from Samsung. The Galaxy Note 6 is expected to be announced officially in late July or early early August this year.
As mentioned already, the Note 6 Lite will apparently be powered by the Snapdragon 820, whereas the Note 6 itself will get the Snapdragon 823, which is believed to be the exact same chip as the Snapdragon 820 but with its 64-bit Kyro CPU cores clocked at between 2.6 – 3.0 GHz and the Adreno 530 GPU clocked at 720 MHz. Meanwhile, this new report regarding the so-called Note 6 ‘Lite’ is based on a post on Chinese microblogging site, Weibo, so it needs to be taken with a pinch of salt at this stage. However, if the rumor does turn out to be correct and Samsung actually releases a ‘Lite’ variant of the Galaxy Note 6 with such high-end specs, it will be interesting to see how the South Korean company prices the device in markets worldwide.
