Software updates for Samsungs Galaxy S7 are coming through to devices on the Sprint network today, promising to bring an enhancement to the battery life as well as an improvement to the security of the device. The timing of the update is interesting, as Google has also just posted the May Android Security patch factory images today for Nexus devices. This latest update for the Galaxy S7 will be introducing Google’s security fixes, but they will be the fixes that came along with last month’s security patch as opposed to the one that was just pushed today. With the update already rolling out to Sprint Galaxy S7’s, users should see the update available for download over the next few days and throughout the week.
Sprint’s update today, which includes the April security patch for Android, follows the launch of the software update for Galaxy S7 devices on AT&T’s network which AT&T began pushing out back on April 21st to customers. Although security bug fixes are a main point of the software update for Sprint customers, it isn’t the only thing to look forward to. Sprint says that Galaxy S7 users will see battery improvements after installing the latest software, coming to devices as build number G930PVPU2APD3.
The software update also introduces improvements to the Voice over WiFi, and for those who frequently make voice calls while connected to a WiFi network and rely on that connection type as opposed to the cell network, they should experience a better overall experience while on the call with better clarity. Sprint doesn’t mention any specifics in regards to the battery improvements, just that the battery has been optimized, so users should expect the device to run a little longer during the day. Alongside all of these changes, general bug fixes and improvements are coming along for the ride. The software update weighs in at 141.93MB in file size which is a fairly decent sized update, so it’s recommended that users should be connected to WiFi for the download and install, and it’s a good idea to have a full battery so the update happens smoothly and without interruption.
