Hitman Go isn’t just somewhat good, it’s a truly unique and quality spinoff of the popular video game franchise featuring Agent 47 that impressed millions around the globe. And now, Square Enix’s critically acclaimed board-game-meets-diorama-styled-puzzler is also coming to Samsung Gear VR and Oculus Rift. In fact, it’s set to launch on both virtual reality headsets tomorrow, as Square Enix announced earlier today.
The Gear VR and Oculus Rift versions of the game will be priced at $7.99 and $9.99, respectively. The VR edition of the game is pretty much a straight-up port of the original creation, except for the fact that the game will apparently feature “seamless head tracking” and will run at 90 frames-per-second on the Oculus Rift. Hitman Go originally appeared on Android and iOS in 2014 and was an almost instant hit among both the fans of Agent 47 and aficionados of puzzlers in general. It’s a part turn-based strategy and part puzzler set in a beautiful minimalistic world diorama-like environments. Despite radically different gameplay, this game still tasks its players with infiltrating various locations, assassinating targets, stealing valuable intel, and exfiltrating in a swift and efficient manner. So, in that regard, this is as Hitman as a Hitman game gets, except for the fact that Hitman Go is not a third-person action-adventure. The Gear VR and Oculus Rift versions of the title will also come with all of the mobile content, which means you’ll have 91 levels inspired by previous Hitman games to play through.
Following the success of Hitman Go, Square Enix also released Lara Croft Go in 2015. Just like its name suggests, it’s an app that’s mechanically similar to Hitman Go and inspired by the Tomb Raider video game series. Given the fact that this title was similarly successful on both Android and iOS and has recently been ported to PC and Windows Phone, it’s not outrageous to presume that VR enthusiasts will also get their own version of this Lara Croft puzzler in the near future. In the meantime, you can enjoy playing Hitman Go in the comfort of your own little virtual world as of tomorrow.
