A few weeks ago, Huawei released the MediaPad M2 7.0 Youth tablet, which is on sale in China for the equivalent of between 200 to 250 Euros. Today we’ve seen a report that shows Huawei are “badge engineering” the M2 7.0 Youth for the European market, calling it the MediaPad T2 Pro 7.0. The tablet has the same specification and design and appears to be the same device, but renamed for the European market.
In terms of dimensions and specifications, the T2 Pro 7.0 is very much as we would expect from a lower to mid-range tablet in 2016. It’s 187.4mm long, 105.8mm wide and 8.2mm thick and weighs 250g, coming complete with a second generation fingerprint scanner. The tablet is based around a 7.0-inch, IPS LCD FHD panel of 1,920 by 1,200 pixel resolution with small side bezels, but thicker top and bottom. There’s an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor running the show, which is a mid-range chipset consisting of two quad-core clusters, one clocked at 1.2 GHz and the other cluster clocked at 1.5 GHz. However, in regards to the memory options there appear to be four alternatives. The standard model, under SKU PLE-701L, will be available with either 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage, or 3 GB of RAM with 32 GB of storage. A premium model, SKU PLE-703L, will come with 3 GB of RAM and in 16 GB and 32 GB flavours. All variants will feature a MicroSD card slot able to take a card of at least 128 GB capacity.
The M2 Pro will also feature a 13MP main camera with a focal aperture of 2.0 assisted by a flash. There’s a 5MP front facing camera for selfies and video calling. In addition to onboard Bluetooth 4.1 and high speed 802.11n Wi-Fi, some models will come with support built-in multi-band LTE, meaning that Huawei will be manufacturing many different variants of the one device. All tablets will have GPS, GLONASS and BDS location technologies built in, an ambient light sensor and a gyroscope. The battery capacity has been pegged at 4,360 mAh but there’s no word on any fast or wireless charging technologies being built into the device – although the source website reckons on the tablet providing a couple of days of battery life. Huawei are giving the device Android 5.1 Lollipop running under their proprietary EMUI 3.1 interface. The software interface will include the ability to lock out certain parts of the operating system without a fingerprint being used. At this time, we do not know the likely release schedule or cost but the device is likely to arrive in four colours of white, gold, blue and pink when it’s released.
