Samsung is a company that people tend to stand up and take notice of whenever they have something to show off or announce, and unless you’re someone who just generally doesn’t care much for technology, new products from any big name brand usually send waves of excitement through the minds of the consumer. Although Samsung’s biggest product launch this year, the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge announcement, happened back during Mobile World Congress in February, Samsung has started to send out invites for media to attend an upcoming event in New York City. What’s more, is that the event takes place this Thursday, June 2nd.
The event takes place at 5 p.m. local time in New York City, and according to the invitation Samsung may be looking to launch something or at the very least unveil it. The invitation states that attendees will be able to “experience how Samsung’s devices work together to create a Galaxy of Possibility.” It’s unclear what, if anything, Samsung plans to show off at the event, but it’s possible that they could be looking to take the wraps off of their new Gear Fit 2 wearable which has leaked out in recent weeks. This may seem like the most logical explanation for the event, seeing as it’s only being announced days before the event takes place.
What’s interesting, is that Samsung’s use of the word Galaxy in the vague event description would normally suggest that they may have something to show off that is labeled with the Galaxy name. This may not be the case at all, and it’s still much more likely that they may be looking to unveil the Gear Fit 2 and the Gear Icon x wearables as these are relatively smaller products in comparison to flagship smartphones. Samsung’s invitation is vague and doesn’t give much detail as to what the event is for, but attendees will be in for more than just an announcement as the invitation states that there will be an exclusive performance by Diplo, and that there will be a surprise guest that’s part of the performance. If Samsung is willing to shell out for a performance as part of the entertainment, then they’ll likely have something to show to the media who attend.
