Last week Samsung introduced the LINE Friends accessory collection for the Samsung Galaxy S7 series in South Korea, roughly three months after the product was first unveiled at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Fortunately for fans of the LINE Friends cartoon characters outside of South Korea, Samsung also announced that it will “soon” release the LINE Friends accessories outside its homeland and into more than 10 other countries located in Asia and the Middle East.
The Samsung x LINE Friends collection consists of a handful of accessories designed for the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge. This includes a protective cover, a wireless charger, and an external battery case, and all the accessories will be released in two flavors, one for each of the two available LINE Friends characters: Brown, and Cony. Furthermore, to mark the occasion, Samsung also introduced LINE Friends-themed watch faces for the Samsung Gear S2 smartwatch, which can be downloaded from the Galaxy Apps store. Additionally, prospective customers in Taiwan can now experience the LINE Friends characters and accessories hands-on and through the Gear VR experience set up by the company at the Samsung Experience Studio, and the same can also be said for customers who may visit the LINE Friends Garosu-gil Store in Seoul.
As for the LINE Friends storyline and how the characters relate to Samsung’s latest flagship, the story revolves around the sun of the LINE Friends planet, which also happens to be a Samsung Galaxy S7. As it turns out, the sun is running low on battery, and Brown and Cony have been appointed to fix this problem by flying a wireless charging stand to the Samsung Galaxy S7 for a quick recharge. As for those of you who may not be familiar with the LINE Friends at all, basically, they are cartoon characters based on the sticker designs of the popular messaging app “LINE”. The characters are quite popular in various parts of Asia including South Korea, and obviously, the characters’ popularity led to the Samsung-LINE partnership for the new series of flagship phones.
