During Mobile World Congress earlier this year, back in February, Sony announced a new line of devices under the new “Xperia X” moniker. During the show, it was unclear whether or not this meant the end of the Xperia Z line, but it seems as though that is going to be the case after comments from Sony execs as well as recent leaks have confirmed. The new Xperia X line involved the Xperia X, Xperia XA and Xperia X Performance, but just yesterday Sony announced a new device dubbed the Xperia XA Ultra. Sony fans wondering where this falls within Sony’s lineup could consider the Xperia XA Ultra as a sort of blend between the budget-friendly Xperia M and Xperia C lines of old.
As we covered yesterday, the focus of the Xperia XA Ultra is to offer those looking for a more affordable smartphone the great camera experience that Sony is capable of. This means that the Xperia XA Ultra is getting a much improved rear-facing camera with a 21.5-megapixel sensor, but the headlining feature is a massive 16-megapixel sensor on the front of the device with a larger lens to make taking selfies a real breeze. To view all of this content – and presumably squeeze in all of your friends – the screen jumps from 5.0-inches on the original Xperia X to a 6.0-inch Full HD display here. On the inside however, Sony haven’t told us which processor is running the show or how much RAM is backing it up, which is a little curious to say the least.
For those in the UK who want to get their hands on this larger Xperia with one of the best selfie cameras out there, they’ll be able to get it from O2 as well as Carphone Warehouse this July. Just in time for all of those barbecue selfies and such. Speaking of which, the two-day battery life should be able to handle anything that your Summer has to throw at it. Color wise, the Xperia XA Ultra will be available in Graphite Black, Lime Gold and White alongside some official flip covers (pictured above and below). It’s likely that the Xperia XA Ultra will be available elsewhere in the UK, but right now the official word is that O2 and Carphone Warehouse will have it come this July.
