Android 6.0 Marshmallow continues to make its way to more devices across networks and LG’s two-year-old flagship, the LG G3, is the latest device to start seeing the update. The software is now being pushed out to the LG G3 on T-Mobile’s network over-the-air, with T-Mobile stating that the update rollout started yesterday, May 2nd. The update file size is about 704MB, so that’s how much free space users will need to have on the device if they want to be able to download the updated software and install it. Although this is an OTA update not all users will immediately have the software available, but users can check to see if they can pull the update down from the network by navigating to settings, about phone, and tapping on software update.
Alternatively, users who don’t want to wait for the software to show up over-the-air can install it through the computer by initiating the download using the LG PC Suite software as the update has been available with this method for the past week. Either method will lead to the same results and if you don’t mind waiting, the OTA will be a simpler process for most people since they don’t have to install anything on the computer.
Although the changelog for the software update doesn’t list off very many tweaks, there is quite a lot coming with the software which should be evident by the size of the file. LG G3 owners will be able to look forward to things like Marshmallow’s more granular permissions control, allowing them to grant permission to apps following the first time they open them as opposed to immediately following the install. Doze Mode and app standby are also included which will help to extend the battery life of the device a little bit, and Google Now On Tap will finally be available. T-Mobile lists that WiFi calling improvements are another change that LG G3 device owners have to look forward to, which should be useful but probably won’t matter to anyone who doesn’t primarily use WiFi calling or use it that often in the first place. T-Mobile’s Marshmallow update of the LG G3 follows the AT&T update to the device which showed up last week.
