Earlier today Android N was officially introduced as Android Nougat. This is the latest version of Android and one which is likely to debut on the upcoming Nexus smartphone(s). While details on the latest in the Nexus range has still yet to be confirmed, most rumors do point to two Nexus smartphone for 2016 and both being manufactured by HTC. Last week, a report came through which looked to detail the specs of the smaller of the two models which currently goes by the ‘Sailfish’ codename. Those specs were based on what Android Police referred to as reliable information. Today, Android Police has now released another report which again is based on undisclosed source information and this report looks to confirm the specs for the other rumored HTC 2016 Nexus smartphone, which is currently codenamed “Marlin”.
As is the case with any pre-release information, the details have yet to be confirmed and are therefore always subject to change, inaccuracy or being wrong. However, the report coming through today looks to confirm that Marlin will certainly be manufactured by HTC. In terms of the cold hard numbers, the report states that Marlin will be equipped with a 5.5-inch AMOLED display which makes use of a 2560 x 1440 (QHD) resolution. Inside, Marlin is said to come sporting 4GB RAM and powered by a Qualcomm quad-core processor. While the processor in question is not specifically named, it does stand to reason that this would likely be the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 (or 821 or 823). Moving on and in the camera department, the report details Marlin will come loaded with a 12-megapixel rear camera, along with an 8-megapixel front-facing camera. In terms of storage, the details suggest Marlin will be available in two storage options, a 32GB internal storage option and a 128GB option. Additional features are said to include bottom-positioned speakers, USB Type-C connectivity, Bluetooth 4.2 and a rear-positioned fingerprint sensor. Marlin is also said to come powered by a 3,450 mAh battery.
Overall, a number of the specs are likely to be ones that many will be expecting to come with the bigger of the two Nexus smartphones. Marlin is considered to be the flagship option and therefore a number of these specs are likely to be correct. Of course, some will question whether 4GB RAM is enough for this year’s model when other companies are looking to include 6GB RAM, but 4GB RAM on Marlin would be a step up from the 3GB RAM which was included on last year’s model, the Nexus 6P.
