Earlier this year, a rumor surfaced that stated the codenames for the upcoming HTC Nexus smartphones were Marlin and Sailfish. This was following an initial rumor that HTC was going to be manufacturing the device this year, and that they would be making two smartphones for Google to launch, just as they did in 2015 with Huawei and LG. Although there hasn’t been much talk about Marlin and Sailfish since they were first discovered, a new rumor today showcases various alleged specifications for the upcoming Sailfish device, including screen size and resolution, memory, camera, and more.
While this does seem to suggest that HTC will indeed be manufacturing a new Nexus device for release this year, it’s important to remember that this is just a rumored set of specs so far which have not been confirmed by HTC or Google. Starting with the screen, the rumor states that HTC’s Sailfish phone will come equipped with a 5-inch screen that toutes a resolution of Full HD (1080p with 441 dpi). In addition to a 5-inch FHD display, the device is said to have a 64-bit 2GHz quad-core processor onboard with a pairing of 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage space, alongside a possibility of different storage size variations.
In the camera department, Sailfish is rumored to carry a rear-facing camera with a 12MP sensor, and a front-facing camera with an 8MP sensor. Much like the Nexus 5X and the Nexus 6P, this HTC-made Nexus is supposed to be keeping the fingerprint sensor on the back of the phone. It’ll come with a 2,770 mAh battery (non-removable) inside, as well as a 3.5mm audio port up top and a USB Type-C port on the bottom for charging and data transfer. It’ll apparently support Bluetooth 4.2 and have a bottom mounted speaker with the possibility of a dual-speaker setup. There is no mention about the version of Android it will be running but the most likely is Android N. If the rumored specs turn out to be true, this is likely the lower-end of the two devices that are thought to be launching later on in the year.
