At the end of May, Lenovo had a rather shaky unveiling, but the new Moto G4 devices are coming, and we cannot wait to get our hands on one for a full review. We reported that the more upscale Moto G4 Plus would be coming to Canada in “early summer,” and now, according to our source, it looks like the Moto G4 Plus will be available on June 22nd – just after the Father’s Day weekend. The source shows that the Moto G4 Plus will retail for around $400 and available at Rogers, Telus, Wind Mobile, SaskTel, Virgin, and Koodo. It will reportedly be available from Wind Mobile for $449 outright, along with three other pricing options that include $0 down on the $15 WindTab plan, $199 down on the $5 WindTab Boost plan, and $349 on the WindTab plan. The cheaper, Moto G4 Play is also to hit Canada later in the summer and retail for $150 – $200 outright. It sports a smaller 5-inch display with lesser specifications.
The Moto G4 Plus is a mid-level performer – it sports a 5.5-inch Full HD display, which means a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. This gives the G4 Plus a pixel density of about 401 pixels-per-inch (PPI). It will be running Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow out-of-the-box. Providing the brains is a 64-bit Snapdragon 617 octa-core processor (MSM8952) with a quad-core A53 clocked at 1.5GHz and a quad-core A53 clocked at 1.2GHz. Coupled to this is an Adreno 405 GPU for handling graphics. The model sold in Canada will have 2GB of DDR3 RAM and 32GB of expandable internal memory up to 256GB via a microSD card. The primary camera has a 16MP sensor with Phase Detection Autofocus (PDAF) and Laser Autofocus. It has an aperture of f/2.0, and a dual-tone LED flash, but no OIS. The G4 Plus packs a 5MP front facing camera (FFC) with a f/2.2 aperture, and auto HDR for selfies and video chatting. A non-removable 3000mAh battery with fast charge capabilities provides the power.
A few other facts – the Moto G4 Plus has the usual suspects – WiFi, Bluetooth v4.1, GPS, an FM Radio, and a microUSB port v2.0 for charging and data transfer. Lenovo also included a fingerprint sensor on the front of the device, rather than in the dimple on the back. It makes it appear that the G4 Plus has a home button, but it is only a fingerprint sensor. Motorola has also chosen to leave NFC out of the device and has stuck with microUSB for the charging port as opposed to updating to the new USB Type-C standard. It measures 153 x 76.6 x 9.8 mm and weighs in at 155 grams.
