Motorola recently launched its 4th-generation Moto G handset, but unlike previous years, this time around there were three different models launched under the Moto G line instead of just the one. While the regular Moto G4 and the Moto G4 Plus are fairly similar devices apart from a few notable differences (including the presence of a fingerprint scanner on the Moto G4 Plus), there’s also a Moto G4 Play that happens to be an entirely different beast with a smaller, lower-resolution display, and a less powerful processor under the hood. Seeing as Lenovo is trying to touch all bases with its Motorola-banded offerings this year, it should come as no surprise then that the company is now expected to launch its 3rd-generation entry-level Motorola smartphone, the Moto E3 Power.
While long-standing rumors have claimed that the next-gen Moto E is indeed in the works, it is only now that more evidence is piling up about the impending launch of the handset that’s expected to be the company’s offering in the entry-level space this year. A post on the website of the Wi-Fi Alliance now confirms that a smartphone called the Moto E3 Power has gotten its certification from the organization, thereby paving its way to be sent to the various telecom and electronics regulators around the world for their clearances before the company can commence sales of the handset. As per the Wi-Fi Alliance website, the Moto E3 Power comes with the model number XT1706 and will run on Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
Meanwhile, as per the listing, the device will not support dual band Wi-Fi, so while support for the 2.4 GHz band is a given, those hoping to see support for the 5 GHz band are out of luck. The device, however, will support Wi-Fi Direct. While the latest listing doesn’t really reveal a whole lot more, earlier reports have claimed that the Moto E3 Power will feature a 5-inch 720p display and will be powered by a MediaTek SoC with a quad-core processor. 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage have also been reported, while an 8-megapixel primary camera and a 5-megapixel front-facing selfie-cam are also rumored to be part of the package.
