Facebook Messenger, the messaging app by Facebook, currently has 800 million users and 96 million active users each month. It was the fastest growing app with a 31% increase in users from 2014. To keep a steady stream of new users and to keep the old users satisfied and never bored of the app, Facebook constantly adds new features to the Messenger app. A few of the features which have been added recently are secret mini-games, such as a Chess mini-game, a Basketball mini-game, and most recently, a Football mini-game in conjunction with the coinciding Copa America and Euro 2016 football competitions. After satisfying sport enthusiasts, Facebook Messenger has teamed up with Spotify to add a new feature to its app which will be much appreciated by music enthusiasts.
This US-based company has added Spotify integration into its messaging app. With this new feature, Facebook Messenger users can now share songs and playlists with their contacts. However, the feature does not permit users to actually play Spotify content within Facebook Messenger. Instead, the new integration only allows users to sharing playlists, tracks and other content via the Spotify app, which will open when the links are opened. To be able to make use of this new feature, Facebook Messenger users will need to have the Spotify app installed on their device and of course a Spotify account. All Spotify users can access this feature as it is not only applicable to Spotify Premium users. At the moment, functionality is limited to Spotify’s app on Android and iOS.
To share music directly from the Facebook Messenger app, users will first need to tap the “…” icon on the bottom right and find the Spotify logo and tap on it to open. After that, it is as simple as finding and selecting the content and sharing it. While to share music from the Spotify app itself, simply tap the “…” icon on the content to be shared and tap “Send to…” which will give a list of available options. From there, just select the Messenger logo from the available options. Spotify is a popular music streaming platform with over 100 million active users and 30 million paying members.
