Today at Lenovo’s Tech World 2016 conference there was more to see than just the Tango-powered PHAB2 Pro device, as Lenovo also announced the Moto Z family of devices. Included in these was the Moto Z DROID Edition smartphone, the next device in the DROID lineup at Verizon who is the carrier which the device will be exclusive to once it launches later on this Summer. Short of being an exclusive device to largest carrier in the U.S., there is not much different between the other Moto Z devices and the Moto Z DROID Edition. It comes with the same size display with the same resolution as well as other specs, and all of the announced Moto Mods will be compatible too.
We’ve been able to get some hands on time with the Moto Z DROID Edition at the conference to provide a more up close and personal look at the device before it’s slated to hit store shelves in the next month or two. As you can see from the images in the gallery below, the Moto Z DROID Edition will be available to pick up in a quite a few different flavors past the standard back thanks to the Moto Mod add-ons, including a back made of wood and another made of leather. These sort of act like style swap covers and allow users to customize and personalize their device to make it unique and different from everyone else’s.
The Moto Z DROID Edition comes equipped with a 5.5-inch QHD AMOLED display, and on the inside it’s powered by none other than the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, which is paired with 4GB of RAM and options for either 32GB or 64GB of internal storage space. Internal storage is also expandable up to 2TB via the microSD card slot, although there are currently no 2TB microSD cards available. On the back it features a 13MP rear-facing camera with optical image stabilization and autofocus, and on the front it features a 5MP sensor. It’s powered by a 2,600 mAh battery and it comes running on Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box for an up to date software experience, and it looks like the UI is mostly stock Android with little design influence from Verizon.
