Quebec Gets Videotron's Gigabit Internet Services

Videotron is a wholly owned subsidiary of Quebecor Media, Inc. and a leader in new technologies and high-speed internet access in Québec. As of March 31, 2016, they had 1.6 million internet subscribers and 795,700 mobile subscribers. For the past eleven consecutive years, Videotron ranked number one as Québec’s most respected telecommunications company in the annual Léger survey as well as winning praise from J.D.Power. In keeping with their tradition of being a leader, Videotron announced that beginning July 13 it will offer both consumers and business customers, internet connection speeds of up to 940 Mbps. This is part of Videotron’s new Hybrid Fibre Giga service, as it becomes part of their suite of Internet services, which include Hybrid Fibre 120 and Hybrid Fibre 200, already available in more than 3 million households.

Manon Brouillette, President and CEO of Videotron said that they were pleased to announce the new, faster internet speed that will help them maintain and extend their lead in access to the internet. He reminded everybody that it had been over 20 years since Videotron was the first to offer high-speed internet to Québec and their latest Hybrid Fibre Giga shows their continued commitment to “state-of-the-art products.” This new service will be a gradual rollout of their Hybrid Fibre Giga and will begin in Laval and then follow across Videotron’s service areas over a few month period.

This high-speed internet will be ideal for those Québécois that loves to stream videos, movies, or music. This new service is available to both home consumers and businesses. It will cost $149.95 per month, and that is for unlimited data – you can download or stream all you want without any fears of data caps or slowdowns. It will support download speeds up to 940 Mbps and upload speeds of 50 Mbps. The pricing and download speed matches the company’s chief competitor in the area – Bell, although Bell does offer 100 Mbps of upload speed. The price is quite a bargain compared to Videotron’s current top speed of 200 Mbps and a 500GB monthly limit for $125.95 per month. With technology exploding the need for high-speed internet is growing – there are more and more smartphones, the growth of streamed content that has become part of our daily lives, the Internet of Things (IoT), home automation, and cloud-based applications are all crying for data. With Giga speeds, the entire family can use the internet for all of the Ultra-HD quality games, movies, etc. that they want without slowing down another user.
