LeEco (formerly Letv) is a China-based company which entered the smartphone game back in April last year. Since then, LeEco has managed to become one of the largest smartphone manufacturers in China, and the company is looking to expand to other markets as soon as possible. They have already opened up a U.S. headquarters earlier this year, and we were wondering when will LeEco start selling devices in the States. Well, according to a new report, it might happen before the end of this year, read on.
According to the latest report, LeEco is looking for talent in the U.S. in order to push forward their plans, and start selling their devices in the country. Smartphones are a part of this, of course, but LeEco also wants to deliver their video streaming service to U.S., which are great news considering this service is quite successful in China. This report claims LeEco is negotiating rights to video content in the U.S., and we might see this launched in the country this fall along with the company’s handsets. The company’s director of PR, Tod Witkemper, said that LeEco will make a ‘big splash’ in the U.S., and that it already has 400 employees in the country. The company plans to hire more people and have at least 1,000 employees by the end of this year, which is quite interesting. On top of all this, it seems like LeEco plans to sell devices unlocked in the U.S., which means you can forget about buying one through a carrier, though this is just a rumor at this point.
The LeEco Le Max 2 is the company’s latest flagship. This phablet comes with a 5.7-inch QHD display, 4GB / 6GB of RAM and 32GB / 64GB of internal storage. The handset is fueled by the Snapdragon 820 SoC, and a 21-megapixel OIS shooter is placed on the back of this device. Now, according to the latest rumor, LeEco is already working on a new flagship, a device which might not only ship with the Snapdragon 821 SoC, but also pack in 8GB of RAM and a 25-megapixel camera. This is a new rumor, and as it usually goes, take it with a grain of salt.
