A number of companies introduced smartwatch products in the last couple of years, some of them ship with Google’s Android Wear OS pre-installed, while others come with third-party software. Xiaomi is, as many of you know, one of China’s largest smartphone manufacturing companies, and unlike Huawei, Xiaomi still did not introduce their smartwatch (except Mituwatch, a smartwatch for kids). This company had introduced the Mi Band 2 earlier this year, their all-new fitness tracker, and a lot of people were wondering when will Xiaomi introduce a smartwatch. Well, the company’s VP confirmed back in April that the Xiaomi-branded smartwatch will be coming this year, and that it will launch in the second half of the year.
That being said, we did not see all that many details leak when it comes to Xiaomi’s upcoming smartwatch thus far, but luckily for us, a sketch of the alleged watch popped up quite recently. If you take a look at the provided image, you’ll get to see a sketch of Xiaomi’s smartwatch, at least that’s what the source claims it is. Looking at this image, the watch seems to be quite thick, and it sports two physical buttons on the right-hand side, while the ‘Mi’ logo is placed above the display. The bezel seems to be quite thick as well, which is weird. Now, please do take this leak with a grain of salt considering this image is sketchy at the very best, it is possible this is Xiaomi’s smartwatch, but it seems kind of unlikely Xiaomi will opt for this design.
Now, Xiaomi’s smartwatch will presumably going to be called the Mi Watch, and it will probably ship with Xiaomi’s software. We still don’t have any software info, but something tells us the Mi Watch will not come with Android Wear, mainly because China is Xiaomi’s main market, and Google Play Services don’t come pre-installed on Xiaomi’s smartphones which are being sold in China, so it is quite possible the Mi Watch will not come with Google’s software either. Knowing Xiaomi, they might introduce a smartwatch variant of MIUI, or something of the sort. As already mentioned, the watch is expected to arrive in the second half of the year, so stay tuned for more info.
