Sony’s new Xperia X lineup comes to Canada, although at a staggered launch and staggered carriers. While the phones were introduced in Barcelona this past February, Sony announced back in the first part of June that all four models would be available in Canada sometime between June 23 and July 14. True to their prediction, Sony officially launched the 5-inch devices in Canada. The top-of-the-line, Xperia Z Performance, is available today from Bell, but can be reserved at Rogers for a July 14 delivery date – not sure, why there is such a gap in the timeframe. Today you can pick up the new Sony Xperia XA exclusively at Bell or Virgin Mobile.
Pricing for the Xperia Performance at Rogers and Bell is $699 off contract and $199 on a two-year contract. The Xperia XA comes in at $399 for an outright purchase and $0 on Bell. On Virgin Mobile, the Xperia XA will cost you $0 on one of their Gold or Platinum Plans, or if you have a Silver Plan, it will cost you $199.99. WIND Mobile is said to carry the basic Xperia X and the Xperia XA in Graphite Black and exclusively carry the Xperia XA Ultra in Graphite Black – all models will be available July 14. The top-of-the-line Sony Xperia X Performance comes with a 5-inch IPS LCD Full HD display, powered by the newest 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 quad-core processor with 3GB of faster DDR4 RAM and 32GB of internal memory that is expandable via a microSD card. It packs a large 23MP primary camera and a 13MP front-facing camera (FFC) and has the dual front facing stereo speakers. A non-removable 2700mAh battery powers the device.
The midrange Sony Xperia X uses the same 5-inch IPS LCD Full HD display but uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 hexacore processor with 3GB of DDR3 RAM (due to the limitations of the SD650) and an expandable 32GB or 64GB of internal memory. It packs the same 23MP primary camera and a 13MP FFC and has the dual front facing stereo speakers. A non-removable 2620mAh battery provides the power. The batteries are designed to last longer thanks to the Qnovo Adaptive Charging technology that Sony has put into these new handsets. In the camera area, the new Predictive Hybrid Autofocus was designed with the help of engineers from Sony’s popular Alpha digital cameras.
