Convenience, simplicity, efficiency. All of these are things that most people look for on a daily basis with at least some of the things they commonly interact with. While they can take many different forms, in the world of streaming music services things like convenience and simplicity have manifested themselves in features like recommending music to listen to. SoundCloud is aiming to offer their community of users this kind of simplicity with a newly announced feature called “Suggested Tracks” as a new way for them to help people discover new music from artists they haven’t heard. This is not too unlike Spotify’s Discover Weekly feature which was launched last Summer.
SoundCloud states that their main goal is to connect listeners with new music that they’ve never heard before, and in turn connect the artists who create that music with new sets of listeners. While users of SoundCloud can already find new music pretty easily on their own in the Discover tab, with Suggested Tracks, users will have the ability to sit back and just enjoy the music without any of the effort from actually searching. SoundCloud also wants to make sure that no one is left out which is why they’re launching Suggested Tracks simultaneously across all of the platforms that you can use their service, which includes through the web on computers and via the Android app as well as the iOS app.
Whether or not you’re a current SoundCloud user, Suggested Tracks will still be able to work, although it will perform its job a lot better for those who have been listening to SoundCloud a little bit longer, as it was designed with a “state of the art” machine learning algorithm to analyze your listening history and find similar tracks to the music you’re accustomed to all the while doing its best to ensure that it will be new music that you haven’t heard. More specifically, the new feature will suggest new songs to play based on both songs you’ve listened to and songs you’ve liked. Although the feature is available across all platforms where you can find SoundCloud, it is located in different places. Mobile app users will find Suggested Tracks in the search menu while those listening to SoundCloud from the web will find it in the Discover tab where SoundCloud has made it the new focal point.
