Every couple of days it seems like we get new phone announcements. Some phones specialize in cutting costs and offering users a lower entry price than what might be assumed, while others go for a more premium look and feel or try to push a larger feature set. Few names in the industry hold the attention of social media like OnePlus though, and in general when they launch a new phone you’re likely to hear about it for weeks or months both before and after the phone’s release. OnePlus is back for its third flagship, aptly titled the OnePlus 3, and it’s keeping the familiar formula of previous devices all while changing things up a bit at the same time.
$399 gets you a top-end spec phone with a top-tier build quality too. OnePlus is debuting their first all-metal phone in the OnePlus 3, having experimented with a glass and ceramic body in the OnePlus X late last year, and the results are something incredible to hold. Looks wise the OnePlus 3 does little to separate itself from the swaths of metal Android phones on the market today, looking something like it came out of HTC, Meizu, and Huawei’s design labs more than something from the acclaimed Chinese startup’s continuously growing assembly lines. That doesn’t make the phone any less desirable though, especially on paper, where its internals are something of a shocker if you’re only looking at the price tag.
A Snapdragon 820, 6GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage are normally specs you’d find on a phone that costs closer to $600 or $700, but that’s the kind of thing OnePlus got famous for doing in the first place. On top of this you don’t need invites to buy the phone this time around, something that’s been a bit of a bane for the company as it tried to grow over the past two years. You can jump on OnePlus’ website right now and order your own OnePlus 3, but be sure to check out our video review before you do to see if it’s worth the money, or if you should just go with some other phone instead.
