Xiaomi Unveils Mi Band 2 Fitness Band, OLED Display In Tow

Xiaomi is not only a smartphone manufacturer, this China-based company also manufactures smart TVs, fitness bands, tablets and all sorts of other tech gadgets. Xiaomi has introduced quite a few smartphones this year, and the company’s CEO has shown off the company’s third Mi Band wearable a while back, the Mi Band 2. Lei Jun was not the only one who gave us a glimpse at the wearable, Hugo Barra did the same during Google I/O, the Mi Band 2 was strapped on his wrist even though he didn’t talk about it. That being said, about a week ago, Lei Jun confirmed that the Mi Band 2 will arrive on June 2nd, and that’s exactly what just happened.

Unlike the original Mi Band and the Mi Band 1S, the Mi Band 2 comes with a display up front. Xiaomi has upgraded Mi Band’s pedometer algorithm with the Mi Band 2, and the wearable should provide an even more accurate heart rate tracking than its predecessors. The Mi Band 2 sports a 0.42-inch OLED display which is covered by a scratch-resistant glass and the anti-fingerprint coating. The display will show off the time, your steps and heart rate, which makes the Mi Band 2 quite a bit more useful than its predecessor which required you to open up an app on your smartphone and let it sync in order to see such details. The Mi Band 2 weighs only 7 grams, and comes with IP67 certification for water resistance. Bluetooth 4.0 LE is built into the Mi Band 2, and so is the 70mAh battery, and Xiaomi says that Mi Band 2 can stay alive for up to 20 days on standby.

The Mi Band 2 comes with a silicone strap, just like its predecessors, though it looks somewhat different this time around and fits nicely with the device itself. The Xiaomi Mi Band comes in Black color only, but Xiaomi has announced a number of different wristband colors for you to choose from. You’ll be able to get the Black, Blue, Green, Orange and several other colors when it comes to Mi Band 2 straps. The Mi Band 2 is priced at 149 Yuan ($22), and is already available for pre-order through Xiaomi’s mi.com website in China. The Mi Band 2 sales will kick off on June 7th, said Xiaomi.
