ZTE is a Chinese telecom company that may not be very well known in the West, but back in its homeland, it is one of the largest going around. While it acts as an OEM for a number of wireless carriers in Europe and North America, its emphasis on brand recognition and higher margins has led it to launch new brands like Nubia and Axon over the past couple of years. While the next-generation Axon Phone, called the ZTE Axon 7, was announced last month, it is now the turn of the next-gen flagship Nubia device to take the center stage as the company reportedly prepares to unveil it in the Chinese capital tomorrow.
Named the Nubia Z11, the device has been in the works apparently since last year itself, when the CEO of Nubia and the senior vice president of ZTE, Mr. Ni Fei, announced that it will be unveiled simultaneously in the US and China, following the success of its earlier release, the Z9. While there’s no word on an American launch at the moment, the company has now released an official teaser that has confirmed the smartphone’s impending announcement on Tuesday, June 28th in Beijing, China. While the teaser hints at a ‘bezel-less’, lightning-fast device, the technical specifications are still officially under wraps, but alleged leaks in the online tech media have now apparently laid bare some of the important details regarding its hardware that lets us get a better understanding of the upcoming device.
According to reports circulating online, the Nubia Z11 will feature a 5.2-inch QHD (2560 x 1440) display panel and will be powered by the Snapdragon 820 SoC from Qualcomm. Alongside 6 GB of RAM, the handset is also expected to come with 128 GB of internal storage, although there’s no word on whether there’ll be a microSD card slot for capacity expansion. The device will also reportedly sport a 21-megapixel primary camera on the rear and an 8-megapixel secondary camera on the front, while a 3,000 mAh non user-replaceable battery is expected to keep the lights on. While the aforementioned spec-sheet is being reported by some publications, it is worth remembering that ZTE is yet to officially verify any of it, so we’ll still have to wait until tomorrow for confirmation.
