A Number Of Huawei-Branded Devices Gain TWRP Support

Huawei and its subsidy, Honor, introduced quite a few smartphones in the last year or so. The Huawei P9, P9 Plus, Mate 8, Honor 5C, Honor V8… and a number more were announced in this time period. Huawei managed to become world’s third largest smartphone manufacturer thanks to their success last year, and the company is selling quite a few devices this year as well. They’ve managed to do significantly better in Q1 2016 compared to Q1 2015, so this year looks quite promising for them.

That being said, those of you who own one of Huawei’s newer devices, and love to root and ROM, well, you’re in luck. The TWRP team has just added a bunch of Huawei-branded devices to their official site, which means those devices are supported by the TWRP recovery. So, essentially, if you don’t like Huawei’s Emotion UI (EMUI), and it seems like quite a few people do not, considering it’s a heavy departure from stock Android, you can always flash some other ROM on your device. TWRP has just added Huawei Honor 4X, Honor 5C, Honor 6, Honor 6 Plus, Mate 8, MediaPad M2 8.0, Huawei P9 and Huawei P9 Plus to their list. As you can see, the company’s flagships are here, and so are a number of other devices which were introduced either last or this year.

Now, for those of you who have not installed a third-party recovery on your device yet, you might want to search for the step-by-step tutorial in order to do so. The procedure is certainly not complicated, but if you don’t know what you’re doing, you might end up bricking your device. Now, there’s a short description available on the source link down below (TWRP’s official website), which is also where you’ll need to go if you want to download the necessary files to flash TWRP on one of the aforementioned devices. That is more or less it, this announcement certainly did come as a surprise, especially considering the sheer amount of Huawei-branded devices the TWRP team has decided to add support for, not that we’re complaining. Anyhow, proceed with caution, and happy modding!
