One of the aspects of Pokemon GO that most people aren’t a fan of, is the fact that you have to do some walking. Actually it’s quite a bit of walking. In the game, there are eggs that you can hatch that can give you new Pokemon, sometimes rare Pokemon. These are hatched by placing in an incubator and walking either 2, 5, or 10 kilometers. But here’s the kicker, you only get credit while the app is open on your phone. Now some have tried to see if they could get away with hatching an egg by driving specified distance. However, it appears that Niantic and Nintendo have put in some limits to keep that from happening. While there is no concrete proof just yet, it looks like if the app detects that you’re going faster than 10 miles per hour, it won’t count your movement towards hatching eggs.
If you were thinking of biking around town to hatch these eggs, you’d better think again. That also won’t work, unless you can stay under 10 miles per hour, which even for a biker, is pretty slow. Niantic appears to really want their players to be walking around town to hatch these eggs, as well as capturing Pokemon that are wandering about the streets. Thinking about walking on a treadmill? Think again. Pokemon GO counts distance as distance traveled via GPS. So walking or running in the same space won’t do you much good. Although it may help you lose a bit of weight.
Pokemon GO has been a pretty popular game since it launched earlier this month. In fact, many would even say it’s the most popular mobile game ever. Which is really saying something, after the success that Rovio has had with Angry Birds. Pokemon GO has also done a great job at getting players out of the house and walking around their neighborhoods, especially those that are addicted to the game. A great way to get kids out from in front of the TV playing video games all day this summer. Nintendo has also seen their stock rise quite a bit since the launch. Which is pretty good for the Japanese company considering they were struggling.
