Perhaps it’s no surprise with how close Samsung’s next Unpacked event is, but there have been a huge amount of Galaxy Note 7 leaks over the past couple of weeks, with the most recent being a rumor that the Galaxy Note 7 is now up for pre-order in Dubai, and a leaked set of Galaxy Note 7 wallpapers which are available for download. This past week there was also a leak regarding the iris scanner, in which it was reportedly shown off being used to unlock the screen in a short video. Today’s leak concerns a handful of screenshots from the Galaxy Note 7, some of which showcase the setup screens for the iris scanner to be used as the screen unlock method.
As displayed in the first screenshot, the lockscreen and security settings menu on the Galaxy Note 7 has an option under fingerprints listed as “irises” which allows the user to set up the phone’s iris scanner to recognize the iris in your eye as the unlock method. The screenshot also displays a fairly good-sized disclaimer about using this method, as well as a couple of diagrams that describe and show how to use the iris scanner for this particular purpose.
In addition to the screenshots of the iris scanner setup, there are also screenshots of various other screens like the app drawer, the homescreen, S Pen shortcuts, the dialer, and more. This gives people a good look at the new UX that’s to be used on the Galaxy Note 7 once it launches. In regards to the iris scanner setup, Samsung describes that you’ll want to hold the device about 25 to 35 centimeters away from your face and at eye level to get the best possible results for unlocking the screen using the iris scanner. Samsung also explains that you should use the iris scanner indoors and away from direct sunlight, so users may have varying degrees of success if they use this unlock method outside, just as they will if they happen to wear glasses or contacts while trying to use this unlock method. Lastly, Samsung also mentions that you’ll need to position your eyes inside of the circles that pop up on screen during the use of the iris scanner to get the screen to unlock.
