An invite recently went out to select members of the media from Huawei, advising them to “save the date” for an event in San Francisco, California. The event will be happening on August 16th, and if the promotional material is any indication, will likely be the big announcement event for the US launch of the Honor 8 smartphone, recently announced for Chinese buyers The device had been making its way around the rumor mill and being leaked in extensive fashion leading up to its official reveal, showing off very high-end specs for a member of the Honor lineup, as well as a number of unique features. The poster for the event speaks not only to the device’s namesake, but to some of those features.
The sideways 8 at the bottom of the poster drops a pretty obvious hint, along with the Honor branding near the top. As if that weren’t enough, the event is set to take place on 8/16/16. While the branding does not overtly say that the event is for the Honor 8, it screams it in just such a way that anything else would certainly qualify as a fakeout. The two halves of the stylized 8 look somewhat like camera lenses, which would mean that they could easily represent the Honor 8’s dual camera setup, similar to the one sported by the Huawei P9, though different (inferior) sensors are included here. The poster is somewhat minimal, which keeps it from giving away any more information about the event, save for the fact that it will take place at 7 PM. The location is not stated, however, and is presumably to be announced closer to the event.
It would be fitting for the launch of a device like the Honor 8 to have its event, with the device sporting fairly high-end specs like a HiSilicon Kirin 950 processor, dual 12-megapixel cameras and fairly premium build quality, making it a fitting flagship for Huawei’s Honor lineup, meant to represent the best of the budget world. While the poster and every other possible indicator, such as its recent launch in its home country, points to the Honor 8 coming stateside, there’s no way to be 100% certain until the actual event takes place.
