Lei Jun Talks About New Xiaomi Phones & Production Capacity

Xiaomi has a lot on its plate at the moment. This China-based company had introduced a number of devices in 2016, and it seems like we still didn’t see the best they can do. The Xiaomi Mi 5 is the company’s current flagship and it was released back in February, and its successor (in a way), the Mi 5s, is going to be released in the coming weeks, at least according to rumors. The Mi Note 2 flagship phablet was also mentioned in a number of leaks and rumors thus far, and the Mi 6 was spotted online recently as well, though it is hard to expect that it will arrive before Q1 2017.

That being said, all of the devices mentioned in the first paragraph are high-end, but it seems like Xiaomi plans to introduce quite a few affordable phones in the coming months as well. The Redmi Note 4 is expected to arrive next month, and the company’s CEO had revealed via Weibo (China’s social network) that not only are they working on improving their production capacity at the moment, but also that they intend to release more devices in the second half of the year (more compared to the first half of 2016). The company is focusing on both affordable and premium devices, but it seems like we might see more than one high-end device hit the market, and by the looks of it, we’re looking at the Mi 5s and Mi Note 2 announcements, it will be interesting to see if Xiaomi has anything else up its sleeve.

The company’s CEO also put a huge emphasis on affordable phones, announcing a number of new devices for the second half of the year. Now, the company’s sales have been progressing quite well, though we still don’t know how many devices will they be able to ship by the end of the year, and will they be able to beat last year’s results. A China-based analyst, Kevin Wang, said that the company is expected to sell around 20 million units in the third quarter of the year, which is an interesting prediction, and a good one for Xiaomi at that. We’ll see what happens, stay tuned.
