One of the more popular smartphones, the LG G4, is still receiving upgrades – the latest is on Rogers’ network. Users have sent in screen shots of their LG G4 receiving the Android Wi-Fi Calling upgrade. This 380MB update will allow users of the LG G4 to make phone calls or send text messages via WiFi – for those times when you are in a building, elevator, or underground parking garage, where the normal signal strength is too weak to function. Rogers launched WiFi calling at the end of May, and it was only available on the Samsung Galaxy Note 5. This update expands that ability to another device, and expect more to follow.
Just remember, even though the calls or SMS messages are going over WiFi, that does not mean that Rogers is still not deducting from your calling minutes or text message total for the month. That hardly seems fair since you could be using any WiFi signal from any company – but it is what it is. The main point is that places you were never able to make a call could now be available to you – it is certainly a nice customer convenience item.
The LG G4 was a great device that was slightly curved to fit nicely in your hand. The outside was upgraded to a ceramic coated and metallic-like finish – and even offered a genuine leather backing, complete with stitches. The LG G4 followed in the footsteps of the LG G3 – the first mass-produced smartphone with a QHD display. While the LG G3’s screen was rather dull, LG improved the LG G4 by switching to a new IPS Quantum display technology to brighten this up. It is a 5.5-inch display with a resolution of 2560×1440 pixels and 538 pixels-per-inch (PPI.) Another interesting note about the LG G4, while LG used the Snapdragon 810 in their LG G Flex 2, they passed on it for the LG G4 and went with the Snapdragon 808 hexacore processor. The LG G4 packed 3GB of RAM and 32GB of expandable internal memory. The LG G4 had one of the top-rated 16MP cameras with laser autofocus, dual-tone LED Flash, a large f/1.8 aperture, and OIS. They also packed in a large 8MP front-facing camera (FFC) for selfies and video chatting. A 3,000mAh removable battery powered the LG G4.
