As part of the new four trademarked ‘X’ devices launched earlier this year, LG Canada – almost without any fanfare – LG Canada has released the new LG X Power, a mid-range device with a huge non-removable 4,100 mAh battery at a reasonable price. It is currently available at Wind Mobile and Videotron, but very shortly, it will arrive at Bell, Koodo, SaskTel, Telus, and Virgin Mobile. The LG X Power is a great device for carriers to use as a prepaid-type smartphone. However, on a WindTab it only costs you $0, but it goes up to a full $249 to purchase the device off-contract. Although Videotron starts out at $0, if you buy it on a contract – it can go up to $299.95 buying it outright.
The emphasis here in this low/mid-range device is definitely on the large battery and Quick Charge 2.0 capabilities. The display is 5.3-inches and sports the IPS LCD technology. The display is only an HD, with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels that works out to a paltry 277 pixels-per-inch. For its ‘brains,’ LG selected a Qualcomm Snapdragon quad-core processor clocked at 1.3 GHz. It packs 1.5GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory that is non-expandable.
In the multimedia area, the LG X Power comes with an 8-megapixel primary camera and a 5-megapixel front facing camera (FFC) for selfies and video chatting. You can shoot 720p video. It comes with a built-in media player and even has HD Voice capacity. It comes out-of-the-box running Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow and includes the charging cable and charger. It uses Quick Charge 2.0 due to its Qualcomm processor. It can easily handle English, French, Spanish, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Korean, Japanese, etc. It also has the usual suspects including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS, although there is no NFC or fingerprint sensor on this model. It uses the following bands – UMTS: B2 (1900), B4 (AWS), B5 (850) and GSM: 850/900/1800/1900. The LG X Power measures 148.9 x 74.9 x 7.9 mm with a weight of 139 grams, and only the Titan color variant is available in Canada.
For those looking for a smartphone with a long-lasting battery in a reasonably priced device, you may want to give the LG X Power a test drive. True, it only has an HD display, but for the price you cannot expect the best of everything. For those who like to watch videos and suck up the battery, with 4,100 mAh and Quick Charge as a backup – the LG X Power might be the ticket.
