Motorola’s latest mid-range smartphone has finally entered the smartphone market in Australia with the announcement of the Moto G4 Plus. The Moto G4 Plus sports a 5.5-inch 1080p display and runs on the Snapdragon 617 chipset. The device comes with either 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage, or 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal storage. Storage can be bumped up to 128 GB via a microSD card and the device has support for fingerprint verification. As for optics, the G4 Plus sports a 16-megapixel f/2.0 rear facing camera with dual-tone LED flash, phase detection and laser autofocus, while the front side of the device sports a 5-megapixel f/ 2.2 shooter. The G4 plus packs a decently sized 3000 mAh battery which is non-removable and it supports fast charging. On the software side of things, the G4 Plus comes with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow out of the box.
The Moto G4 Plus is the first phone to be sold in Australia with support for 3G/4G dual-SIM capabilities. This is somewhat important as all three network providers in Australia plan to turn off their 2G network at the end of the year, rendering older dual-SIM phones useless. Motorola also announced the 2nd-generation of the Moto 360 for the Australian market. It comes with a 1.5-inch circular LCD display, an integrated heart rate monitor, battery life which should last two days on a full charge, and the ability to measure the number of steps you take. The Moto 360 2nd-gen will come in two variants, a 46 mm Cognac Leather strap for men and a 42 mm Silver Metal strap for ladies. However, if two announcements weren’t enough, Motorola made a third one announcing the launch of its online store for Australia. Now you can order your Motorola products directly from the online store with full support and Australian warranty, and receive it within three to six days, depending on your location. However, Moto Maker will not be available in Australia for the time being. The Motorola online store will be launching on the 15th of July, which is next week.
As for pricing and availability of Motorola’s latest products, the Moto G4 Plus will be priced at AU$399 ($299) and AU$449 ($337) for the 2 GB RAM and 3 GB RAM variant respectively. The Moto G4 Plus 2 GB RAM variant will be available at Harvey Norman, The Good Guys and Officeworks starting from 9th July, while the 3 GB RAM variant will be available on motorola.com.au from 15th of July. The Moto 360 2nd-gen on the other hand, will be priced at AU$479 ($359) for both the Cognac Leather Strap version and Silver Metal strap version. The smartwatch will be available at Harvey Norman starting from 13th July, while the Motorola Online Store will start selling it from July 15th.
