Pokemon GO was initially launched in Australia, North America, and New Zealand at the beginning of July, and it was only a week before the game expanded its reaches into 26 new countries across Europe. Needless to say, some Pokemon fans were luckier than others in acquiring the application and starting the hunt for Pokemon, but the good news is that those who reside in Canada can now officially grab the application from the Google Play Store. The game was released in Canada over the weekend and is now available in the said region on both Android OS and iOS.
Pokemon GO has become wildly successful in just a couple of weeks since its initial release, so much so that it is now the most popular mobile game to ever be released in the United States. However, this huge success led countless connectivity issues for users around the world, and as a result, the game’s worldwide release has been slower than expected or desired. Fortunately, Pokemon GO is now finally available for download from the Google Play Store in Canada, but whether or not the servers will be able to manage the influx of new Canadian players remains to be seen. In fact, there have already been numerous reports in regards to intermittent server outages following the game’s recent release in Canada, but hopefully, these problems will occur less frequently as time goes by.
It’s interesting to note that, although Pokemon GO hasn’t been officially available in Canada until yesterday, Android smartphone users in the region have been able to acquire the game through APK sharing websites. As a matter of fact, recent studies have shown that roughly 6% of Android smartphone users in Canada had already downloaded the Pokemon GO APK before the game’s official release. Pokemon trainers who have done so can now update their existing application from the official Google Play Store in Canada, and they will not lose any progress recorded while playing the game before its release. As for those who may still be wondering what Pokemon GO is all about, it’s an augmented reality game that uses a smartphone’s location services (GPS) to determine the player’s location and spawn Pokemon in random places around the world. The game encourages players to go outside and search for PokeStops and Gyms, and of course, the main objective is to catch as many Pokemon as possible and train them to become stronger.
