T-Mobile Galaxy S7/S7 Edge Receive July 2016 Security Patch

Earlier this week, Google started rolling out the security patch for July, like clock work. The BlackBerry Priv also began getting its update for July. Now it appears to be T-Mobile and Samsung’s turn with the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge receiving the update today, according to users over on Reddit. T-Mobile has also updated their support pages for both devices, to indicate that the update is rolling out today through July 22nd. So if you don’t get the update on your device today, give it some time. As this is a staged roll out as usual with OTA’s. This is done so that the server isn’t overloaded, and Samsung can make sure the update isn’t causing any unforeseen issues. T-Mobile’s security update page notes that this includes the June 2016 security patch. However, users that have received the update are noting that it is actually the July 1st, 2016 patch. It appears that there, is a typo on T-Mobile’s security page.

The update also includes a slew of small changes and fixes to the device. The update weighs in at about 340MB in size. Quite a bit larger than most other security releases have been. If you own the Galaxy S7 or Galaxy S7 Edge on T-Mobile, be sure to head into Settings > About Phone > System Updates > Check for Updates. The update will keep you on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow and bring you to version G930TUVU3APG1.

While updating your device can prove to be pretty annoying – especially waiting on Android to optimize all of your apps again – it’s still important to update your phone whenever there is an update available. There are plenty of security vulnerabilities being patched in this update, and it’s definitely necessary to apply this update as soon as it is available for your device. Not to mention all the bugs that are being fixed in this update, which should improve your experience with either the Galaxy S7 or Galaxy S7 Edge. Currently, there’s no word on when the July 2016 security patch will be rolling out to the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge on other carriers and in other regions of the world. Samsung should make that information known in the very near future though.
