Prisma, which has been available on iOS for some time, was only available until now on an invite-only basis to Android users while the app was still in development. But now, it is available to the general public via the Google Play Store. The app is not just a photo editing app. It’s an app that will turn your photos into works of art. When you open the app, you go straight into camera mode so that you can edit your snapshots as soon as you take them. You have the usual camera options such as the ability to change cameras and toggle the flash, as well as access to your photo gallery to start with a photo you’ve already taken. Once you take or select a photo, you are presented with an extensive gallery of artistic styles to choose from. The style gallery uses thumbnails to give you an idea of what the finished product will look like, and when you choose a style it transforms the photo to match. If you decide that style wasn’t what you were looking for, you can still choose one of the other ones and it will replace your original selection. The artistic styles are quite amazing, and really do a fantastic job giving your photos the illusion of being drawn or painted works of art. Your finished product will have a Prisma watermark in the corner, but that can be turned off in the settings.
The power behind this app lies in artificial intelligence (AI). Rather than simply applying filters over the top of the image, it actually analyzes each part of the photo and redraws it. This sometimes causes the process to take a while, but the end result is worth the wait.
