The photo app Prisma became quite a hit among smartphone users shortly after officially hitting the Google Play Store a couple of days ago after a lengthy period of an invite-only closed beta testing. The app is designed for quick and effortless photo editing and has been specifically made for users who aren’t particularly tech-savvy or artistically inclined but still like the look of some modern art. It basically uses a bunch of advanced algorithms powered by some robust cloud processing infrastructure in order to turn the ordinary photographs of your cat into works of art. Better yet, it even lets you pick the style of art you’d like to “paint” over your mundane photos and offers quite a lot of them for free.
And while the app is currently enjoying a huge popularity among Android users, the Russian studio Prisma Labs isn’t planning on resting on its laurels and is instead currently hard at work developing another huge feature for its app – video editing. The basic idea is to give Prisma users the option of editing videos in the exact same way they’re currently editing photos. Which is quick and painlessly, or at least that’s what the company’s co-founder Alexey Moiseenkov announced today. Furthermore, he also revealed that Prisma Labs has actually already developed all of the required video editing software and is currently only tweaking its existing infrastructure in order to make sure it’s capable of carrying the increased load which the video update will surely bring. While there’s still no word on an exact release date, Moiseenkov revealed it shouldn’t be long before we’ll be able to turn our videos into fine works of art. More specifically, the new features should be rolling out on the Play Store in the next few weeks, probably in mid-August.
While immensely popular, Prisma naturally isn’t the only photo editing app out there. People looking for an alternative to it have plenty to choose from as high-quality Android photo apps are in high supply. Not a lot of them feature video editing features, though, so it seems likely that Prisma will continue to enjoy its popularity as its developers have already figured out a way to stand out from the competition.
