While the new Nexus devices coming from Google and HTC are not yet official as they haven’t been announced, both new phones are said to be coming with a feature called Night Light mode (previously Night Mode in the Dev Preview) which can be found in the settings menu. If the name doesn’t give it away, Night Light mode is aimed at being used at night time while being able to filter out blue pixels that are emitted from the display. It does this by giving the screen a red tint, and should essentially work the same as the recently discovered Blue light filter setting found on the Samsung Galaxy Note 7. Since many people tend to use their phones at night, exposing themselves to Blue light, it can be more difficult to fall asleep. According to the screenshot of the Night Light mode setting, enabling this can potentially help users fall asleep more easily. There will also be an option to have the feature enabled automatically either by sunrise/sunset data or through a custom configured time schedule set by the user. If you often use your device before you go to sleep this is sure to be a welcomed feature on the new Nexus phones.
The settings menu is also due to receive a dual-pane UI with the ability to swipe back and forth between “All” and “Support” settings menus. While the dual-pane design will be new to settings, it isn’t new to Android as this is something implemented in quite a few places various applications.
Another display tweak that appears to be coming to the two new Nexus devices is a gesture add for Ambient Display, which will end up allowing users to forgo waking the screen up completely and instead double-tap it to receive needed information like the time, date, and notifications. The image below showing the gesture in action also mentions that users will be able to simply pick up the device to activate Ambient Display as well. In addition to these leaked (although still unofficial) features, some new concept renders have surfaced for the Nexus Marlin device, showcasing what is being described as a hybrid between the HTC 10 and the Nexus 6P.
