Today, Google released Nougat to the masses. For those that may not be aware, Android 7.0 Nougat is the latest version of Android, which has been available in a developer preview state since around March of this year. Five developer previews later, and the final build is now available for everyone. Although that’s not exactly true, it’s for everyone with a Nexus device from 2014 or later. Supported devices for Android 7.0 Nougat include the Nexus 6, Nexus 9, Nexus Player, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P and the Pixel C.
Android 7.0 Nougat brings a ton of new features to the Android platform. In fact, Google says that there are over 250 new features coming in this new version of Android. Some of the highlighted features include changes to Doze, Multi-Window, improved multi-tasking, 72 new emojis and so much more. From a consumer’s perspective, the update may not look that massive. But under-the-hood, there are loads of changes here with Android 7.0 Nougat. Which will make your device run faster, smoother and have better battery life. Not to mention it’ll support virtual reality a bit better. Remember that the Nexus 6P is currently the only Daydream supported smartphone at this time. Daydream is Google’s new virtual reality platform that is going to be a step above what Cardboard was.
Currently, the OTA’s are beginning to roll out for those with the beta version of Android 7.0 Nougat on their devices. You do have the option of enrolling now and getting the OTA almost instantly. But if you’d rather not do that, and just want to sideload the update, we have the links below so you can do just that. These aren’t traditional OTA’s in the sense, as they are the full update to Android 7.0 Nougat. Which means they are pretty large, around 1.1GB for each OTA. Having said that, you’re going to be waiting quite a while for the OTA to apply to your device and have it boot back up afterwards. So if you notice that your Nexus device is taking a while to boot back up, don’t worry about it. That is to be expected anytime you update the OS, especially with a massive update like Nougat.
Note: We will update this post once more OTA links become available.
