Last year, Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Note 5 which sported a redesigned S Pen. The big change here was that the end was clickable and the S Pen fit in flush with the Galaxy Note 5. Making it look really great, especially with the metal frame and glass back here. But the only problem here was the fact that the S Pen could fit in the wrong way, and many users ended up breaking the silo that the S Pen would slide into. You see, in that silo, there are sensors that tells the Galaxy Note 5 that the S Pen has been taken out, or that it’s inside the device. With that sensor not working, many S Pen features no longer worked. It became a pretty big issue for Samsung, luckily they fixed it with the Galaxy Note 7 this year.
What Samsung did here was they changed the way the silo was shaped. So you can insert it the right way without an issue. But insert it backwards, and you won’t get far before the S Pen will no longer go in. This was a simple way to fix the issue, without having to redesign the S Pen. This should, hopefully, keep Galaxy Note 7 users from inserting the S Pen backwards and damaging their device or their S Pen. Samsung gave its users the best of both worlds this time. The S Pen is flush with the frame of the Galaxy Note 7, and it’s also a bit “idiot proof”, meaning you can’t insert it backwards. While it is a somewhat small change, it’s still one worth noting.
The Galaxy Note 7 was unveiled today in New York at Samsung’s Unpacked event. The Galaxy Note 7 also has a slightly curved display, and debuted with a new Gear VR headset. Samsung isn’t wasting any time in getting the Galaxy Note 7 into users hands. As they are opening up pre-orders at all four of the major wireless carriers in the US as soon as tomorrow. With the device shipping on or before August 19th. So it won’t be long before you’ll have your brand new Galaxy Note 7 in your hand.
