Early this morning, or late last night depending on where you are in the world. A video started circling around the internet. Basically showing what would happen if you put your S Pen in backwards in the Galaxy Note 5. Doing so breaks some of the sensors inside that tell the device that you’ve taken out the S Pen. After this video surfaced, a number of users started putting their S Pen in backwards for some reason.
Following all of this, Samsung has finally come out with a response to the issue. Which really isn’t an issue. Basically the South Korean company is stating that you should read the manual. Now why is this an issue, when it wasn’t with the previous four Galaxy Note’s? Simple, the Galaxy Note 5’s S Pen sits flush with the frame of the product. Which means it’s the same size the entire length of the pen, except for the tip. Now in previous Galaxy Note’s the top of the S Pen was a bit wider, which made it so it wouldn’t fit into the S Pen Silo, hence no issues.
Here’s the statement from Samsung to the BBC today:
“We highly recommend our Galaxy Note 5 users follow the instructions in the user guide to ensure they do not experience such an unexpected scenario caused by reinserting the S-Pen in the other way around.”
Now we first covered this, this morning. But please, do not put the S Pen into its silo backwards. You will regret it. Not because it’s stuck in there, but you will break your brand new $700 smartphone. And that’s likely the last thing you’ll want to do. For many that have used or even owned previous Galaxy Note’s, you likely won’t have any issue with putting the S Pen in properly. As your brain is trained to do it with the pointed end in first. As it should be done.
That should be the end of S Pen Backwards Gate, or whatever we are calling it this time around. It could be considered a design flaw, but there’s an easy way around it. Just don’t put the S Pen in backwards, and you’ll have nothing to worry about.
