The Honor 8 was originally unveiled back in July in China, and the company has opted to host a separate event for the device’s launch in other regions. The company has hosted a press event in San Francisco today, and during the event, they’ve introduced their quite capable, sleek-looking, and yet still quite affordable smartphone, the Honor 8. This handset is made out of metal and glass, and even though its specifications are not exactly top of the line, they’re still more than formidable. That being said, we’ve already covered the main announcement of the device, and have also talked about its specifications. In case you’d like to know more about the phone’s camera sensors, read on.
The Huawei Honor 8 actually comes with two camera sensors on the back. These two sensors are placed in the upper left corner of the phone, and next to them you’ll notice the dual LED, dual tone flash. That being said, we’re looking at two 12-megapixel BSI shooters here (f/2.2 aperture, 1.25um pixel size), and Sony’s IMX286 sensors are placed inside of these cameras. These sensors might seem familiar, as they were included in the Huawei P9 and P9 Plus as well. If you own the Huawei P9 / P9 Plus, or have read reviews of these two phones, you probably know how capable are these two sensors. Now, we’ll have to wait until we review the Honor 8 in order to see how well they will perform here, but chances are that we’ll get the same camera software as the one included in the Huawei P9 and P9 Plus. The Honor 8’s cameras come with HDR, panorama, face detection, geo-tagging and touch to focus options / features, while the laser autofocus is also a part of this package. The two cameras are capable of shooting 1080p video at 120FPS, in case you were wondering. As far as the phone’s front-facing snapper goes, we’re looking at an 8-megapixel shooter (f/2.4) here, which is paired with a single LED flash.
As far as other Honor 8 specs go, this phone certainly does not disappoint. The device sports a 5.2-inch Full HD display, and it comes with 3GB / 4GB of RAM and 32GB / 64GB of internal storage. The 3GB RAM model will be available with 32GB of storage, while the 4GB RAM model will ship in both 32GB and 64GB storage variants. The device is fueled by the Kirin 950 64-bit octa-core SoC, and it comes with a 3,000mAh non-removable battery. Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow comes pre-installed on the Honor 8, and the company’s Emotion UI 4.1 is available on top of it. The Honor 8 will be available for pre-order at $399 and $449 in the US starting tomorrow, you’ll be able to get it from Best Buy, Amazon, HiHonor.com and B&H Photo.
