After announcing the Honor 8 for the US last week, the Honor team is in Paris to announce the Honor 8 for Europe. Which will be priced at £369, putting it right in the sights of other competitors like the OnePlus 3 and ZTE AXON 7 (although the AXON 7 isn’t actually available in parts of Europe, yet). We got a chance to take a look at the Honor 8 last week, in San Francisco and were pretty impressed with the device. In a lot of ways it reminds you of the Huawei P9, but there are some subtle differences. The biggest one being the glass back, instead of the metal back that the Huawei P9 sports.
Internally, the Honor 8 sports a HiSilicon Kirin 950 octa-core processor with 4GB of RAM, 32GB/64GB of storage with a micro SD card slot that will support up to 256GB, dual 12-megapixel cameras on the back (Sony IMX287 sensors, for those wondering), with a 8-megapixel front-facing shooter. This is all powered by a non-removable 3000mAh battery, and last but not least, it sports a 5.2-inch 1080p AMOLED display. So it’s one of the smaller smartphones on the market today, but definitely not an underpowered one. The Honor 8 is running Android 6.0 Marshmallow with EMUI v4.1 in tow.
The Honor 8 is available beginning today, August 24th in the UK for £369. It’ll be sold at Clove, Ebuyer, Expansys, Amazon and Huawei’s own vMall. The Honor 8 will be available first at vMall and have a special “anniversary package” which includes some unnamed goodies. Amazon is throwing in a free Fire TV Stick for purchases of the Honor 8, as well. The Honor 8 will be available in all three colors, which include Pearl White, Midnight Black and Sapphire Blue.
Honor has only been around for about two years now, and since expanding outside of their homeland of China earlier this year, they’ve taken the world by storm. First with the Honor 5X launching at CES earlier this year, and now their flagship, the Honor 8 launching in many more countries. The Honor 8 has most of the same specs as the Galaxy Note 7, without the S Pen and iris scanner, and with a much lower price tag.
