The Huawei Mate 8 was introduced back in November last year. This is a metal-clad phablet, and still Huawei’s flagship phablet. The Mate 8 offers great design, solid build quality, and its specs are still quite, even though they’re not exactly top of the line anymore, which is why people have been wondering when will Huawei release the Mate 9. Well, the Mate 7 was introduced during IFA in 2014, so it is possible that the Mate 9 will land next month as well (even though Huawei’s exec said that won’t happen), though it’s also possible that Huawei might wait until November once again, we’ll just have to wait and see what happens.
While we’re waiting for Huawei to introduce the Mate 9, another leak has popped up online, as per usual. If you take a look at the gallery down below, you’ll get to see two images showing off the alleged shell of the Huawei Mate 9. As you can see, there are two rear-facing cameras available here, and below them is the rear-facing fingerprint scanner. There are two cutouts flanking the two camera sensors, and we presume these are for the Laser Autofocus, and the dual-LED flash. On the bottom, you’ll notice the Type-C USB port, two cutouts for screws, and two sets of cutouts for speaker grills, we presume. It is possible Huawei intends to include only one speaker, and the other set of cutouts is for the microphone and aesthetics purposes, though we do hope that they’ll opt for two speakers and proper stereo sound, of course.
Now, as far as previous rumors and benchmark listing(s) go, the Mate 9 will sport a 5.9-inch fullHD (1920 x 1080) display, which means it will be bigger than its predecessor who sported a 5.7-inch panel. This phone will be fueled by the HiSilicon Kirin Hi3660 SoC, which is probably a codename for the Kirin 960. Two 12-megapixel sensors will be placed on the back of the Huawei Mate 9, and 64GB of storage will be included in this package. The device will ship with 4GB of RAM if GFXBench is to be believed, though do keep in mind that a 6GB RAM variant is also a possibility. Android 7.0 Nougat will ship out of the box here, according to GFXBench, and on top of it, you’ll be able to find Huawei’s Emotion UI (EMUI) custom skin.
