Huawei Teases Duo Of Smartphones For Potential IFA Unveiling

Huawei is rumored to be unveiling a duo of new smartphones at IFA this week as the conference prepares to kick off in Berlin, Germany on Thursday, according to a set of teaser images which show off the vague and partial silhouettes of two different devices, accompanied by a tagline that asks the public to “defy expectations.” Included in the text on the image is “IFA 2016” so it’s rather clear that the suggestion is that Huawei has announcements planned for both phones at the event. These are speculated to be the Nova and Nova Plus, which have also been rumored by Evan Blass on Twitter to launch at IFA, who also states that Huawei will be announcing the MediaPad M3 in addition to both phones.

Details of these teasers as well as the mention of the Nova and Nova Plus names arrive after much speculation that Huawei’s IFA announcements would revolve around the Mate S2 and the Mate 9, which Huawei themselves have now confirmed as of earlier today would not be making appearances at the event. Judging by the teaser images both devices will features rounded and smooth edges and corners, and although it’s not possible to tell based on these images, the phones will likely feature metal frames.

Rumors are that the Nova and Nova Plus are to be mid-range devices, although it’s possible that the Nova Plus could be geared more towards the high-end of the mid-range given the “Plus” in the name. Alongside the rumor of the devices showing up at IFA and that they will be mid-tier phones, the Nova line is said to be marketed towards women. This would not be unlike what Huawei has done with the Huawei Watch Elegant and the Huawei Watch Jewel, both of which were versions of their highly popular Huawei Watch, but designed with a more feminine style to them. Other than what’s mentioned in the rumors there is unfortunately not much to go on and there are no specifications details just yet. Having said that, any hardware and build materials as well as pricing is likely to be announced at IFA on September 1st, although it is also entirely possible that Huawei could hold back on pricing and availability information until a later date.
