MIUI 8 Is Now Rolling Out, Download Links Available

Xiaomi had introduced a new version of their Android-based operating system earlier this year, the MIUI 8. Since then, they’ve postponed its launch several times, and the company had finally confirmed yesterday that the OS is going to become available starting today. As promised, Xiaomi has started rolling out MIUI 8 to a number of devices in both China and other markets. This essentially means that both the Chinese MIUI 8 and global MIUI 8 ROMs are currently rolling out to consumers.

Now, as it’s usually the case with updates, you can either wait for the update to hit your device, or you can opt to install it manually. Before we start talking about installation, let’s list the phones that are getting the update. The Redmi 1S, Mi 2/2S, Mi 4i, Redmi Note 3G and Redmi Note 4G are getting the OTA update as we speak, chances are some of you already installed it on your devices. Now, a number of other Xiaomi-branded devices will get this update soon, but the rollout has not started for those units just yet. These are the devices in question: Redmi 2, Redmi 2 Prime, Redmi Note 2, Redmi 3, Redmi 3S/Prime, Redmi Note 3 (Qualcomm variant), Redmi Note 3 Special Edition, Redmi Note Prime, Mi 3, Mi 4, Mi 5, Mi Note and Mi Max (32GB model).

Now, the MIUI 8 update actually has a lot to offer, it’s not just another iterative update, or anything of the sort. MIUI 8 brings along a new paint job, the UI is now even ‘flatter’ all around, Xiaomi had opted to tweak the colors throughout the system, and re-design icons and basically make the whole experience that much better. A proper volume control center is included in this update as well, and the notifications bar has also been tweaked in order to be far more functional. That being said, Xiaomi has also released a full changelog for the MIUI 8 update, and as it is way too long, we cannot really cover every single tidbit that was tweaked here.
