Xiaomi is, first and foremost, a smartphone manufacturer, but as many of you know, this company is much more than that. They tend to manufacture various smart gadgets, ranging from smart scales and fitness trackers, all the way to smart rice cookers and tablets. On top of all the hardware Xiaomi manufactures, the company is also developing their own Android-powered operating system called MIUI. MIUI has been around for a long time now, and the company had introduced its 8th iteration (MIUI 8) earlier this year. MIUI 8 stable global & Chinese ROM was supposed to launch already, but its release date has been pushed back a couple of times now.
That being said, the company has finally confirmed the final release date of MIUI 8. According to an official post on MIUI forums, MIUI 8 will be released on August 23rd. One of the forum administrators released this information by saying that Xiaomi intends to start pushing MIUI 8 ROM to a number of devices starting from August 23rd, which essentially means that the ROM will not be available to every single device right that moment, it might take a bit of time for all devices to get notified that the update is available, though we’re fairly certain all of them will get updated fairly quickly. Speaking of which, these are the device which will get MIUI 8: Xiaomi Redmi 1S, Redmi 2, Redmi 2 Prime, Redmi 3, Redmi 3S/Prime, Redmi Note 2, Redmi Note 3 (Qualcomm version), Redmi Note 3 (Special Edition model), Redmi Note 3G, Redmi Note 4G, Redmi Note Prime, Mi 2/2S, Mi 3, Mi 4, Mi 4i, Mi 5, Mi Note, Mi Max (32GB model). Do keep in mind that only the Redmi 1S, M i2/2S, Mi 4i, Redmi Note 3G and Redmi Note 4G will get this update starting on August 23rd, all the other phones will have to wait a bit longer, as the company has promised that MIUI 8 will start rolling out to all the other devices listed above in the near future.
As for the update process itself, it’s quite simple. Once the update is available for your smartphone, you’ll get notified, after which you can click on the notification and kick off the download and installation process. Do keep in mind that you can also check whether the update is available manually by opening the ‘Updater’ app, of course. In any case, it might be wise to backup your data before proceeding, chances are everything will be updated without a hitch, but there’s always a chance something might go wrong, even Xiaomi says so in their official press release.
