ZTE’s sub-brand Nubia has released a handful of smartphones this year, but the story of Nubia for 2016 is not over, and the company recently sent out invites for a new unveiling event which will take place at IFA 2016 in Berlin. The invites read “What’s NU? @ IFA 2016” indicating that a new smartphone or series of smartphones will be unveiled at the event, and the “Dream Without Boundaries” caption further suggests that the devices planned for an unveiling could sport very thin bezels, not unlike the Nubia Z11 launched earlier this summer.
At the moment, the Nubia Z11 is the company’s top-tier smartphone, powered by a near bezel-less 5.5-inch display covered in 2.5D glass, and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 system-on-chip under the hood. The idea of a bezel-less design has been adopted by Nubia for quite some time, and the company has released quite a few smartphones flaunting this specific design element. Now the company seems to want and continue the tradition with a new smartphone, which will be unveiled at IFA in Berlin, on the 31st of August at 16:00 hours CEST. The company didn’t reveal any specific details regarding the smartphone(s), but it’s likely that the most powerful model to hit the stage in late August will at least be on par with the Nubia Z11, though it is possible that they intend to re-launch the Nubia Z11 for the global market. For the sake of having a point of reference, the Nubia Z11 features a Snapdragon 820 SoC, an Adreno 530 graphics chip, a whopping 6 GB of RAM, and 64 / 128 GB of internal memory, which can be expanded by up to an additional 256 GB via microSD. The smartphone takes advantage of a 16-megapixel main camera with optical image stabilization, an 8-megapixel front-facing sensor, a 3,000 mAh battery, and other features including Dolby Atmos, and a fingerprint scanner.
It remains to be seen what’s going to be new, or “NU”, at IFA in Berlin, but despite the slightly confusing “NU” caption, it’s unlikely for Nubia to have partnered up with NuForce for the creation of its upcoming device(s). In any case, stay tuned, the launch event is only two weeks away.
