OnePlus 3 owners should start getting a new update on their phones pretty soon. According to a post on the official OnePlus forums, the company is rolling out a hotfix for OxygenOS 3.2.4 on the device, which happens to be the third-generation flagship smartphone from the Chinese vendor. The incoming software will apparently fix a few bugs reported by its users, including an “auto-reboot issue”. The company says that installing the update will also patch up a few minor bugs, implement carrier optimizations and improve the call quality on the handset. The update will be incremental, meaning, it might take a while before it’s rolled out to all OnePlus 3 owners around the world.
It’s worth noting that this is just a hotfix for known bugs, and hence, does not come with any security fixes, so those expecting a security update will be disappointed. The phone’s security patch level will continue to remain at July, 2016, so fixes for the Quadrooter vulnerabilities will continue to elude OnePlus 3 users for now. Either way, the new fixes should still bring some relief to those who were suffering from any of the issues that OnePlus has now apparently patched up with the latest update. The device already provides a pretty decent value for the money, and new stability and security patches can only make it even more desirable than it already is. It remains to be seen, though, how long the company takes to actually roll out the August security update to its smartphones, having rolled out the July security patches just last week.
The OnePlus 3 was launched back in June at an event in New York City, and since then, has gone on sale in many regions around the world, including the U.S., Europe, China and India. The device features a 5.5-inch Optic AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display and is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 SoC. It packs 6GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. As for the cameras, the rear-facing one comes with a 16-megapixel sensor with an f/2.0 aperture, PDAF (Phase Detection Autofocus), OIS (Optical Image Stabilization) and an LED flash, while the front-facing selfie-cam is an 8-megapixel unit, also with an f/2.0 aperture and a pixel size of 1.4 µm. The device has Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow pre-installed and is expected to get Android 7.0 Nougat in the future.
