Smartphones are certainly extremely useful devices which can perform a multitude of tasks such as making phone calls, text messaging, browsing the internet and capturing moments in life with its camera. However, most smartphones are rather fragile, most sporting a glass display and being encased in metal or plastic. While smartphones are certainly getting more robust over time, it still isn’t enough for people who live an active lifestyle where their smartphones may be damaged rather easily especially outdoors. This is where Kyocera comes in, the “North American leader in rugged mobile solutions” has just announced its latest device, the Kyocera DuraForce Pro.
According to Kyocera, the DuraForce Pro will be able to provide businesses and consumers with a dependable smartphone that can withstand the harshest environments and mishaps. Kyocera’s latest device is shockproof, drop-proof, and dustproof. It also comes with IP68 certification which means it is waterproof in up to 2 meters deep of water for up to 30 minutes. The rugged device comes with Military Standard 810G which provides protection against a multitude of elements such as dust, shock, vibration, extreme temperatures, low pressure, solar radiation, humidity, immersion, freezing rain and salt fog.
Aside from the rugged side of the device, the DuraForce Pro sports a 5-inch Full HD display and under the hood it is powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 617 processor. It is backed by 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage which is expandable. For optics, it packs a 13MP rear facing camera and a 5MP shooter on the front. The camera comes with a host of new features such slow-mo, sports mode, action and an underwater mode. The device comes with Kyocera’s new Super Wide View Camera which offers functionality usually found in action cameras, which means the new device can be used as an action camera too. It can also be integrated with most action camera mounts. However, the DuraForce Pro does not offer 4K video recording, but the fact that it can double up as an action camera is pretty neat. On the battery side of things, the device packs a decently sized 3240mAh non-removable battery with support for Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 as well as wireless charging. It also comes with Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box. Kyocera is offering a 2-year warranty with the device and will be available for purchase in coming months in North America though no official price has been announced yet.
