When it comes to newer mobile devices, it seems that most next-generation smartphones are slightly larger than the previous generations, with typical modern devices sporting screens sizes on par with devices that would have been considered phablets, only a few short years ago. But not everyone wants a larger display; some would rather have a compact device that is more portable, even at the sacrifice of screen real estate. Those who prefer smaller smartphones tend to be stuck with less of a choice these days, among the growing trend of large-display smartphones.
However, a new device from Motorola may be the solution for those who want a compact device without having to settle for outdated hardware. This one comes with the model number XT1663 and according to a new report out of TechDroider, is likely to be the ‘Moto M’. The device shows some similarities to the XT1662, which was spotted on GFXBench a couple of months back, with the only difference being the MT6755 processor found on the former. A recent GFXBench listing which is thought to be of the Moto M reveals some information about the device, most notably the display, which measures only 4.6-inches and has a resolution of 1080 x 1920. Aside from the smaller display, the data shows the device to have a MediaTek MT6750 chipset with a 1.9 GHz octa-core CPU and Mali-T860 GPU, 3GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal storage. While not confirmed by the GFXBench listing, the most recent report details that the physical design of the device is likely to be similar to the 2014 Moto series of devices, however, the back will house a fingerprint sensor. The cameras include a 16-megapixel rear camera and an 8-megapixel front-facing camera, and the device comes with Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box. There is no word on what types of software features Motorola will include, however, it is probably reasonable to expect Motorola’s typical set of pre-installed software features, including modified voice software with an always-listening mode.
Keep in mind that none of these specifications, nor the device itself, have officially been confirmed yet by Motorola or Lenovo. Likewise, there is no information available regarding the likely pricing of the device or an official release date.
