Samsung devices are ones which typically receive plaudits for their quality, their design or both. This seems to be the case whether it is a Samsung smartphone, TV or otherwise. In terms of their mobile offerings, their most recent releases, the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy Note 7 both seem to be continuing this trend as they are being hailed by many as two of the most attractive and well-designed smartphones of this year. Much like the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge were last year. Which is of particular importance as the Galaxy S6 range was really what started off the new look Galaxy S range devices.
Speaking of which, the Galaxy S6 Edge in particular has now been awarded a silver medal by the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA) at their most recent International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA). As the Edge variant comes with those sloping edges and extra functionality, it seems it impressed those at the IDSA enough to be credited with the award. Although, that was not the only medal Samsung managed to pick up during the IDEA event, as the company’s Gear 360 also picked up a silver medal. While the Samsung Gear S2 smartwatch and its portable SSD T3 external drive were also awarded bronze medals as well.
That said, it seems the big winner for Samsung was their Serif TV. This particular one takes design to the next level as it is able to essentially camouflage itself within a room, instead of being prominently displayed on a wall or dedicated stand. Although, it does come with a stand (detachable legs) for those who want a more prominent-positioned TV. Such a focus on designing the actual way in which consumers interact with the Serif TV is what seems to have really caught the IDSA’s attention and enough for Samsung to bag a gold award at the IDEA event. In a press release on the topic, Samsung also highlights that while not specifically awarded, 21 additional products from the company also made the finalists list. Among them was of course, Samsung’s Family Hub Refrigerator. For those wanting to know more about Samsung’s gold-winning Serif TV, check out the video below.
