Snapchat has already had geofilters available for quite some time. These filters differ from place to place, and allow you to add filters to your videos and photos. For example, if you are at a sporting venue, you’ll see filters specific to that place as well as that city. Now Snapchat is beginning to roll out what they call ‘Geostickers’. These Geostickers are pretty easy to understand. They are basically the same as geofilters, but they are stickers this time.
Currently, Snapchat is only rolling out these Geostickers in a handful of cities. This includes Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York City, Sydney, Honolulu, Washington DC, London, Paris, Riyadh and São Paulo. Of course, to use these new Geostickers, you will need to have location services enabled to use them. Snapchat is looking to bring these Geostickers to more cities in the near future, but for now, they will be limited to just these 10 cities. Which they say are the biggest cities in the world, at least for Snapchat users.
Like many features, this is likely one of those features that will be rolling out slowly. As Snapchat gauges how their users like Geostickers and how well they work with their current product. Geostickers can be sent in chat on Snapchat, or you can stick them to pictures and video within the app. Basically, the same as you would with a normal sticker, which is already available in the Snapchat app.
Snapchat has been working diligently to add more and more features to their app in recent weeks and months. As they have seen some unprecedented growth recently. They have grown so large that they actually get more daily video views than Facebook does. That tells us why Facebook was looking to buy Snapchat not too long ago. Snapchat has a unique user-base, considering their social network is all about pictures and video that disappear after 24 hours, that wouldn’t be a huge surprise. These new Geostickers are available in the Snapchat app now, of course that’s only if you are in one of these ten cities that Snapchat has them available in.
